First day of school!

Boy, has this day been a long time coming! Zack has been looking forward to the first day of kindergarten since we moved here. He was not one bit scared or nervous, an old pro! I teared up a little bit when he walked into the school with his class, but overall did much better than Courtney. She freaked out when Zack got out of the car. Dustin said it took her two trips around the school to get her to stop crying. She wanted to go with him and didn't quite understand why she couldn't. When it came time to go pick him up, she grabbed her shoes and ran to get in the car! "Go get Zacky at school!" she kept saying the whole way there. He had a great time in class, or at least he said he did, and we're excited he has started this new phase in life. He is growing up way too fast though if you ask me!
As for miss Mary Cate, she is still doing about the same. They have taken her completely off oxygen now and she is breathing fine on her own. She sometimes breathes a little too fast, but nothing to worry too much about. Unfortunately her platelet count keeps dropping lower and lower. They have given her platelet transfusions the past two days. Her count didn't go up much after the first dose, so they gave her more yesterday. Hopefully her CBC looks better today. The doctor yesterday said they don't really know why it keeps dropping, but he's willing to let it get down pretty low before transfusing her again (unless she starts actively bleeding internally). If they have to keep giving her platelets, they might do a bone marrow biopsy to see why her bone marrow isn't producing any platelets. I hope we don't get to that point though. The other thing we are working on is feedings. She is getting milk through her feeding tube still, they haven't tried a bottle with her yet. But her doc said they will probably try in the next couple of days to see how she does with it.
Zack was able to hold her for the first time on Saturday. He loved it and kept giving her hugs and kisses. All in all, MC is much improved since last week. We still have a few wrinkles to iron out before she can be discharged. I miss her so badly when I'm not there with her. It just feels like she's missing when we're all at home, even though she's never even been home with us. Zack is always asking when she's going to come home, and we just keep saying soon... and I hope it will be!
p.s. I just got back from seeing Mary Cate today and she has been put back on oxygen via nasal canula. Her oxygen saturation levels were not staying up, so they put her back on 0.5 L of O2.

I am so glad that Mary Cate is doing better! I hope the doc finds out about the platelets soon so that you can have her at home with you guys. Give Dustin & the Kids a love from the King Family. We miss you guys!
Well, I am officially jealous. For some crazy reason around here they don't start pre-school until 2 weeks after regular school starts. And it's killing me. I mean, I love the kid, but 3 hours of freedom, I mean preschool, sounds fantastic right about now.
That picture of Zack with MC (I really like that name) is so precious. What a doll. We're checking for updates daily. We'll chant "Platelets, platelets, platelets..." in TX.
Yay for Zack!! I still can not believe he is going to kindergarten. What a big boy. He looks so handsome.
As for Mc, I am so glad she is doing better. I love the picture of Zack and her. So cute.
It says a lot when your daughter is so attached to her bigger brother like that... :) Keep up the good work! Thanks for the updates!

Stace,
You are such a brave mamma for all these changes in your life right now. One kid going to kindergarten is enough for my emotions to explode and you have so much more on your plate to deal with. I'm glad she's improving, slowly but surely. We'll keep praying that she's home with you soon!!!
Zack is such a great big brother--looking out for Mary Cate and showing Courtney how great school is. I love how Courtney is so attached to him!
He's gonna rule kindergarten!!! I love the pic of him holding MC!!! I wish Kiki could go to school with her idol!!!
oh my gosh you guys!!! I am so sorry to hear about your little baby girl! I had no idea about any of this because I was blog absent for about 2 months. I totally feel you pain. I know what it is like being told that your child has to stay on oxygen and can't come home for awhile. Geese! I feel like crying for you guys! I truly am so sorry and want you to know, that you guys are in my prayer. I will put little Mary Cate's name in the Temple when I go on Saturday! She is such a sweet and beautiful little thing. Be positive, even though at times it is hard!!!
You guys are great parents!!!! Lets us know if we can help with anything at anytime! I am serious!
