Why I Love Her...

This morning I walked into a conference room full of people; a psychologist, speech pathologist, vice-principal, nurse, and two teachers. You see, I had an appointment to meet with all of these people and discuss Courtney and her academic development. I am grateful everyday for the programs that are available to her that can help her succeed to her greatest potential. Courtney is enrolled in a "special education" Kindergarten, or "special K" as it is called. She has an amazing teacher and other professionals who are so diligent in working with her and her classmates. I feel so blessed to be her mother. But it is not easy sitting in a room full of people having them tell me how my daughter does not measure up to "typically" developing peers. She struggles in this, or is slow to learn in that; needs extra help with X and really doesn't understand Y. I absolutely know they all have her best interest in mind and are there to help her, but none the less I left feeling a little bit down, a little defeated.

Then this afternoon, I came downstairs to find her with a big old grin, looking like this!

You'd think she had 5 brothers by looking at her here! Football, golf and hockey all at once!

She is such an awesome girl! She's beautiful, happy, sweet, easy going, fun and patient. When we found out about Courtney's syndrome we knew learning might not come as easy for her, so none of this is coming as a big surprise to us. With her optimistic personality, I know she can overcome any obstacle and learn all she needs to know to become an outstanding, intelligent young woman. Our gloves are up and we are ready to knock out any difficulties that come our way, no matter how tough! Once again, I am one lucky gal to be her mother because she makes me a better person just by being herself!

xoxo love my Kiki girl :)
