Ready or not... but mostly ready!
So on top of fetal monitoring twice a week, I had been seeing my perinatologist every week for the past 3 weeks because he had been concerned about the baby's heart among a few other things going on. After thinking he was going to let me deliver this baby for the past 3 visits, this particular visit I was completely sure he'd send me home for another week just like he had done for the past 3 weeks. Dustin said he had a feeling this was the day and I told him he was crazy! We had gotten to the end of our visit and he had told me that I was good to go for one more week and then he noticed a problem. There was some back flow in the baby's aorta, which was a sign of pretty serious distress and he quickly reversed his original plan of next week to lets get your baby delivered today! I was caught off guard a little, but Dustin and I headed to the hospital ready to roll. Lucky for us Dustin's mom was still here and had everything under control at home with the kids, which was a huge relief!
We had to wait a couple of hours at the hospital because I had eaten breakfast, but at 3:47 pm, our little William Porter Goodrich made his grand entrance (via c-section)... all 5 lbs. 4 oz. of him! Things seemed to be going ok with him at first, but the more time that went by, his condition seemed to be deteriorating. So off to the NICU he went in respiratory distress. They got him stabilized and he is cruising along now in the NICU and we will see how things go.
