Let the remodel begin...
I'm not quite sure why I chose to start this massive project when I did. It was probably to take my mind off of the whole cast thing, but the week after Will got his cast on, I started painting our kitchen. I've always wanted to paint it because I hated these oak cabinets, they're ugly.
So Dustin took off all the doors and we got after it. It took almost 2 weeks of spending our nights and nap times prepping, painting, sealing, etc. We lived with our messy kitchen cupboards exposed for a while... scary!
They turned out pretty nice! I just wanted to finish the project with some bead board around the island. Easy enough, just wait for Papa Goodrich to come and help. Right?!
Well, when Papa came for Thanksgiving, he cut the bead board and it looked great... expect for that I thought the white cabinets now looked pretty lame with the existing tile in our kitchen. So that was next on our list.
But before we could do the floors, this weird half wall thing had to go, all it did was collect junk. A couple of swings with a hammer and some kicking and it was history. Time to patch up the sheet rock where the wall use to be, lucky for us, Papa was here!
Next up... tile removal. This was a BEAST! Very labor intensive. Dustin had to take them out one by one and there was a LOT of tile. The house was covered with dust. I didn't know it would be that messy!
Zack took a turn with demolition as well. He's always by Dustin's side.
Once we were down to cement, we painted all the walls and the wood started going in.
One of our awesome neighbors is way handy and he helped Dustin with most of this part of the project.
Almost there, just need some baseboards.
The {mostly} finished product! What a relief! Now time to think about Chirstmas and more importantly, getting Will's cast off!
